Course Description

This Course describes the skills and knowledge required to perform first aid in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. This unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide first aid in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Entry Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successfully complete the enrolment process including LLN assessment.

Duration

The total duration is 1 day. Training and assessment are conducted.

Training Overview

  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation CPR & Defibrillator (adult, child & infant)
  • Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Burns and scalds
  • Head, chest and spinal injuries
  • Fainting and unconsciousness
  • Bandaging techniques
  • Choking
  • Asthma management
  • Anaphylaxis management
  • Poisoning, bites, stings and much more!
  • Assessment
  • Online videos & multiple choice exam
  • Practical first aid & CPR demonstrations / aid skills assessment

Vocational Outcome

After the successful completion of the course, the participant will gain the following skills and Knowledge:

  • Recognize and assess an emergency situation.
  • Provide first aid with established first aid procedures.
  • Communicate details of the incident
  • Review the incident.

Pathways

Students who successfully complete this unit of competency will be awarded a statement of attainment and wallet sized card. Employment pathways upon the completion of this unit of competency include possible job titles such as first aider.

Students completing HLTAID011 Provide First Aid will enable the student to take further courses in first aid. These may include HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting and HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid.

Students must complete refresher courses every 3 years according to the Australian Resuscitation Council.
