Refresher Training: electrical spotter training needs to be refreshed annually.

Course Description

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker.

It includes compliance with safe approach distances for the worker, plant, tools and equipment.

The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence/registration to practice in the workplace.

Other conditions may also apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements which must be confirmed prior to commencing this unit.

Entry Requirements

  •  Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successfully complete the enrolment process including LLN assessment.

Where training and assessment is to be completed in the workplace, the following entry requirement is included:

  • Nominate and have approved a suitable workplace to complete the course.

    Duration

    The total duration is 1 day. Training and assessment are conducted.

    Training Overview

    • WHS Legislation, regulations, standards
    • Hazard control measures
    • Communication method between the workers and safety observer
    • Safety observer role and responsibilities
    • Safe approach distances for the work to be performed are determined
    • Work permits, Incident Reports accordance workplace requirement

    • Complete work and documentation

    Pathways

    Students who successfully complete this unit of competency will be awarded a statement of attainment and wallet sized card. Employment pathways upon the completion of this unit of competency include a range of possible job titles that require working in the vicinity of electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker.

    Students completing this unit of competency may decide to undertake additional studies such as ICT20319- Certificate II in Telecommunications Technology or UEP20222- Certificate II in Remote Area Essential Service or a range of other courses.
