Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required operate a skid steer loader to load, haul and distribute materials.

This unit applies to those working in site based roles.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors, and must be sourced from state jurisdictions prior to applying this unit.

This unit alone does not provide sufficient skill to independently load and unload equipment. To perform this activity safely, personnel must either complete or be assisting someone who has completed RIIHAN308F Load and unload plant or equivalent.

Entry Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successfully complete the enrolment process including LLN assessment.

Experienced operators must have a minimum of 1 years’ experience.

Where training and assessment is to be completed in the workplace, the following entry requirement is included:

  • Nominate and have approved a suitable workplace to complete the course.”

Vocational Outcome

This course is programmed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to operate a skid steer bobcat to load, haul, and distribute materials.

  • Plan and prepare for skid steer loader operations
  • Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • Drive and operate loader using techniques suited to equipment capabilities and site work conditions, and according to workplace procedures
  • Establish the weight of the load and ensure it is within safe operational limits of the machine
  • Assist loading and unloading the machine from float/trailer following safe work practices
  • Manage and report hazards to maintain a safe working environment

Pathways

Students who successfully complete this unit of competency will be awarded a statement of attainment and wallet sized card. Employment pathways upon the completion of this unit of competency include possible job titles such as skid steer loader operator.

Students completing this unit of competency may decide to undertake additional studies such as RII30820- Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations.
