Course Description

This Course describes the skills and knowledge required to operate, load, haul and dump materials using an articulated haul truck.

This unit applies to those who work in operational roles.

This unit applies to both front and rear dumping haul trucks.

Note

An articulated dump truck works by bending at the articulation joint, so it can navigate more easily. A rigid dump truck steers by using a rack and pinion system. This system turns the entire chassis of the truck at the same time as the front and rear wheels move.

Entry Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successfully complete the enrolment process including LLN assessment.
  • Nominate and have approved a suitable workplace to complete the course.
  • Have a minimum of 1 years’ experience operating a haul truck.

  • 1 Day Training & assessment with experience

Vocational Outcome

  • Plan and prepare for articulated haul operations
  • Operate articulated haul truck in line with established requirements
  • Load, haul and dump materials to complete work activity
  • Conduct housekeeping activities

Pathways

Students who successfully complete this unit of competency will be awarded a statement of attainment and wallet sized card. Employment pathways upon the completion of this unit of competency include possible job titles such as haul truck operator.

Students completing this unit of competency may decide to undertake additional studies such as RII30820- Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations.
