Course Description
This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.
Entry Requirements
- Be at least 14 years of age
- Hold 100 points of ID as per the SafeWork NSW identification checklist
- Successfully complete the enrolment process including LLN assessment.
Where training and assessment is to be completed in the workplace, the following entry requirement is included:
- Nominate and have approved a suitable workplace to complete the course.
SafeWork NSW Conditions For Assessment
- Applicants should be at least 14 Years of age.
- Able to produce 100points as per the SafeWork NSW identification checklist.
- Speak and understand English at a level to be able to belong in the training and assessment.

The total duration is 1 day. Training and assessment are conducted.

Vocational Outcome
This course is programmed to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge required to work in the construction Industry safely.
- Identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work.
- Purpose & use of PPE are identified and demonstrated.
- Procedures for reporting hazards, incidents, and injuries are identified.
- Recognize incident and emergency response procedures.
Pathways
Students who successfully complete this unit of competency will be awarded a statement of attainment and wallet sized card. Employment pathways upon the completion of this unit of competency include possible job titles such as construction worker.
Students completing this unit of competency may decide to undertake additional studies across a range of training package courses across multiple industries.
